Infrared Thermography Service

Infrared ThermographyOur infrared Thermography camera gives us an edge when you need us to diagnose and solve complex problems associated with Building, Electrical, and Mechanical Systems.

The immediate benefits of infrared thermography to our clients are:

  • Low Cost
  • Quick Deployment
  • Diagnosis without physical intrusion / disruption
  • Documentable Measurements

Our infrared thermography camera allows us to quickly detect temerpature changes -- such as from moisture, liquid or gas leaks, electrical resistance, mechanical friction and internal structural flaws.

This infrared camera provides a measurable qualification as to the level of heat differential, making it useful for diagnosis, court testimony, insurance and urgency of remediation.

RME conducts both qualitative and quantitative Thermography to solve problems for its clients. Quantitative Thermography is typically required in preparation or support of litigation.

RME provides Infrared Thermography services to many of its clients including the Fortune 500, attorneys, and private citizens. The following provides an overview of the various Infrared Thermography Services offered by RME.

Building Science Thermography

RME uses multiple tools including Infrared Thermography when conducting assessments and investigations on interior and interior Building Systems. RME conducts thermal mapping of temperatures on interior and exterior surfaces to identify thermal irregularities or anomalies. The types of Building System Assessments that RME has conducted includes:

  • Building Envelope Analysis
  • Construction Defect Analysis
  • Roof Assessments
  • Insulation Assessments
  • Leakage Assessments
  • Indoor Air Quality Assessments
  • Energy Audits
  • Moisture Damage
  • Property Condition Assessments

The applications for these Builsing System Assessments include:

  • Capital Investment Analysis
  • Capital Improvement Analysis
  • Insurance Claims
  • Litigation
  • Forensic Assessment
  • Construction Defect
  • Full-Scale Assessment and Cost Analysis.

Electrical Systems Thermography

RME uses Infrared Thermography to conduct assessments of Electrical Systems. Abnormal heating associated with high resistance or excessive current flow is often the primary cause of problems in Electrical Systems. Infrared Thermography allows for RME to see these invisible thermal signatures of impending damage before the damage occurs and allows for an assessment of energy waste. With Infrared Thermography, RME can assess:

  • Switch Contacts
  • Connectors
  • Bus Bars
  • 3-Phase Fuse
  • Controllers
  • Fuse Clips
  • Wall Plugs
  • Circuit Panels
  • Transformers and Connectors

Mechanical Systems Thermography

RME uses Infrared Thermography to conduct assessments of Mechanical Systems.  Mechanical Systems are diverse and exist in all types of Buildings and Facilities.  A basic technique used in conducting inspections of Mechanical Systems is Thermal Mapping.

Thermal Mapping creates a series of comparable thermal images that details the changes in the system during operation or over time, or compared to similar machines. With Infrared Thermography, RME can assess:

  • Excess Friction on bearings or gears
  • Non-uniform Heat Flow
  • Non-uniform temperature Heat Flow
  • Inadequate Cooling or Heating
  • Inadequate Fluid Flow
  • Differences in Capacitance
  • Differences in Conductive Heat Flow
  • Abnormal Electrical Resistance
  • Air Leakage

Litigation Support

RME personnel have served as expert witnesses in a variety of litigation related to the exposure of humans to hazards, including chemical and biological substances. RME has supported the investigation of claims related to disputes between owners and contractors by analyzing records and preparing independent studies to determine the veracity of claims.

RME has also served as expert witness in water damage and mold litigation conducting expert analysis as to the nature, extent, and cause of water damage, mold growth, and indoor air quality. For chemical and biological exposures, RME has prepared emissions rates, fate and transport models, and quantified the exposure of the general public to toxic chemical spills and permitted releases.

On many of these cases, RME has used Infrared Thermography as a specific tool in support of its field observations and testing.

Infrared Thermography is widely used throughout all major industries throughout the world to:

  • Help solve maintenance problems
  • Improve safe working conditions
  • Control manufacturing costs.

Infrared Thermography service

Our Thermography service measures heat differences as small as .8° Farenheight. This allows our trained professional to understand problems involving:

  • Moisture
  • Thickness
  • Binding
  • Friction
  • Thermal Capacitance

RME follows the guidelines, methods, and standards prepared by American Standard for Testing and Materials (ASTM), ASNT, and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in the conduct of its assessments and testing.
